Hanuman Saves Lakshman: The Flying Mountain

The Story of Saving Lakshman

The great battle between Rama's army and Ravana's forces raged for many long days. Hanuman fought bravely alongside his friends, but one dark night, disaster struck: Lakshman, Rama's beloved brother, fell in battle, gravely wounded, his breath growing faint and weak.

Rama knelt beside him, heartbroken. "Lakshman, stay with me," he whispered. "Do not leave."

The camp's healer examined him quickly and looked up with urgent eyes. "There is a cure — a rare and powerful herb called Sanjeevani, which grows only on a distant mountain called Dronagiri, far in the Himalayas. If it is not brought before sunrise, I fear we may lose him."

Every warrior in the camp fell silent, for the mountain was impossibly far away — far more than any of them could travel in a single night.

Except one.

"I will go," Hanuman said, already rising to his feet, his heart pounding with fierce determination. "And I will return before the sun rises."

He grew to an enormous size, more massive than any mountain himself, and with a single mighty leap, shot off into the night sky, faster than the wind that was his father, faster than he had ever flown before.

He flew over oceans and forests, over sleeping villages and silent valleys, until at last, in the pale light of the moon, Dronagiri rose before him — a great mountain covered in countless glowing herbs and plants.

Hanuman landed and searched eagerly for the Sanjeevani herb — but to his dismay, in the moon's dim light, every single plant on the mountain looked exactly alike, glowing softly with the very same silver-green shimmer. He searched and searched, but he simply could not tell which one was the herb that could save Lakshman's life.

Time was slipping away. Somewhere far behind him, Rama waited by his brother's side, watching the eastern sky grow closer to dawn with every passing moment.

Hanuman would not fail. He would not risk choosing wrong, and he would not waste even a single moment more searching in the dark.

So he did something no one expected — something only he, blessed with such extraordinary strength, could ever do.

He wrapped his powerful arms around the base of the entire mountain, took a deep breath, and lifted the whole of Dronagiri clean off the ground.

With the entire glowing mountain balanced upon his shoulder, Hanuman soared back across the sky, faster than ever before, racing the rising sun itself.

He arrived just as the first light of dawn touched the horizon, setting the great mountain down gently beside the camp. The healer rushed forward, quickly found the Sanjeevani herb among the countless plants, and prepared it at once.

Lakshman's breathing steadied. Color returned to his face. And slowly, wonderfully, he opened his eyes.

Rama embraced his brother with tears of joy, then turned to Hanuman, his heart overflowing with gratitude. "You carried an entire mountain across the sky, all to save one life."

Hanuman only smiled humbly. "I could not risk choosing wrong, so I simply chose to bring everything. When someone you love needs help, you do not stop to measure how much is enough — you simply give all that you can."

And with the sun rising fully over a camp full of relief and joy, Hanuman gently lifted Dronagiri once more, and flew it safely back to its rightful place in the far Himalayas — a mountain that had, for one extraordinary night, carried the weight of a life within its glowing leaves.

Fun Fact: Even today, there are hills in the Himalayas that people say broke off from Dronagiri during Hanuman's flight — dropped gently along his path that night.

When you're not sure exactly what's needed, doing more than enough is never a mistake — love always finds a way to be useful.
